Arsène Chabanian (1864-1949) was an Armenian-born French painter known for his vibrant landscapes, seascapes, and depictions of natural beauty. He was born in Erzurum, Ottoman Empire (now in Turkey), and moved to Constantinople (Istanbul) at an early age, where he began his artistic studies. Chabanian continued his education in Italy, focusing on classical techniques and honing his skills. In the late 19th century, he moved to Paris, where he became part of the city’s flourishing art scene and eventually naturalized as a French citizen.

Chabanian’s work is characterized by his deep love of nature, with a particular focus on the play of light and the effects of water and sky. He often painted coastal scenes, rivers, and countryside views, using bright colors and impressionistic brushwork to capture the atmospheric moods of his subjects. His style blends elements of both Armenian artistic traditions and the French Impressionist movement, making his works unique and sought after.

Throughout his career, Chabanian exhibited his paintings in major Parisian salons, including the prestigious Salon des Artistes Français, and his works were well-received both in France and internationally. His paintings can be found in museums and private collections worldwide.

Arsène Chabanian’s legacy endures as one of the prominent Armenian artists who achieved success in Europe, blending Eastern and Western influences to create timeless landscapes and marine scenes. He passed away in 1949 in Paris, leaving behind a rich body of work that continues to be celebrated today.
