Hagop Hagopian

Hagop Hagopian, a renowned artist born on May 16, 1923, in Alexandria, Egypt, was known for his unique and unparalleled style that aimed for perfection. His compositions were linear with tranquil and subdued colors that exuded contemporary elegance while retaining a nostalgic and serene aura. His love for the Armenian countryside was evident in his landscape paintings, where every natural element was treated with utmost care and grace. Although his paintings had a tranquil atmosphere, they still managed to convey a powerful emotional message.

In his later period, Hagopian included animated mannequins and sculptures to his paintings to display human emotions universally. His still-life paintings were emotionally charged, depicting philosophical layers of human interaction, relationships, experiences, and existence in our surroundings. His pictorial language was unique and artistic, which sets him apart from other artists. He remained one of the most interesting and youngest artists of our times until he passed away on March 9, 2013.

Hagopian’s work is prominently displayed in various museums worldwide, such as the Moscow Oriental Art Museum, State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, Modern Art Museum of Yerevan, Armenian National Gallery, Georgian National Museum, A.Kasteyev State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Museum Ludwig in Cologne, Germany, and Zimmerli Art Museum in New Jersey.
